For the past decade, the rapid development of the ergonomics
disciplines as well as the fast growing economy in the Asian region
have been attracting the attention of the international ergonomics
community. Although East Asia has been changing from a traditional
agriculture-oriented society into a modern industry-oriented
society and its economy covers a great deal of shared interests
across the continents, yet the ergonomics related knowledge and
practice are still in its infancy. Because of the geographic
proximity and a strong historical, cultural and technology
affinity, it is vitally important to maintain good communication
and cooperation among the individuals as well as among the
ergonomics organizations in the region. This symposium, EAEFS, has
provided supporting ergonomics organizations and interested
participants a forum to exchange ideas, build friendship, foster
greater understanding of and among these individuals and
organizations, and develop perspectives concerning ergonomics
issues in this region and beyond.
This volume contains the selected papers presented at the Second
East Asian Ergonomics Federation Symposium (EAEFS), held from
October 4 - 8, 2011 at the National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
The Second EAEFS, endorsed by the International Ergonomics
Association (IEA), aims to consolidate the established ties within
East Asia and to extend the cooperation among ergonomics
researchers, professionals, and practitioners in the region to
other regions in Asia and the world. Senior scholars and leaders
from Asian countries have shared their wisdom, experience,
insights, and visions on past, current and future ergonomics
efforts in Asia.
The papers contributing to this book address the latest research
and application in accordance with the theme of the symposium,
"Ergonomics in Asia: Development, Opportunities and Challenges,"
and cover the following areas: Virtual Environments & Design,
Aging & Work Ability, Usability & Interface, Biomechanics
& Anthropometry, and Occupational Safety & Health.
The book focuses on the orbital dynamics and mission trajectory
(transfer or target trajectory) design of low-energy flight in the
context of modern astrodynamics. It investigates various topics
that either offer new methods for solving classical problems or
address emerging problems that have yet to be studied, including
low-thrust transfer trajectory design using the virtual gravity
field method; transfer in the three-body system using invariant
manifolds; formation flying under space-borne artificial magnetic
fields; and the orbital dynamics of highly irregular asteroids. It
also features an extensive study of the orbital dynamics in the
vicinity of contact binary asteroids, including the 1:1
ground-track resonance, the equilibrium points and their stability,
and the third-order analytical solution of orbital motion in the
vicinity of the non-collinear equilibrium point. Given its breadth
of coverage, the book offers a valuable reference guide for all
engineers and researchers interested in the potential applications
of low-energy space missions.

infrastructure investment and economic development, bringing
together a diverse range of scholars from China, Russia, and
Eastern Europe. The book assembles a package of next generation
ideas for the patterns of regional trade, investment,
infrastructure development, or next steps for the promotion of
enhanced policy coordination across the Eurasian continent and
strategic implications for EU, Russia and other major powers,
introducing innovative ideas about what these countries across belt
and road can do together in the eyes of the young generation. This
book will be of interest to scholars, economists, and interested
observers of the international impact of Chinese development.

IP-based multimedia communications have become increasingly popular
in recent years. With the increasing coverage of the IEEE 802:11
(TM) based wireless networks, IP-based multimedia communications
over wireless networks are also drawing extensive attention in both
academia and industry. Due to the openness and distributed nature
of the protocols involved, such as the session initiation protocol
(SIP) and the IEEE 802:11 (TM) standard, it becomes easy for
malicious users in the network to achieve their own gain or disrupt
the service by deviating from the normal protocol behaviors. This
SpringerBrief presents real-time intrusion detection techniques
that can quickly track the malicious behaviors which manipulate the
vulnerabilities from either the 802.11 (TM) or the SIP protocols.
More specifically, this book presents interdisciplinary techniques
to achieve an effective real-time intrusion detection system, which
interweaves medium access control (MAC) protocol analysis,
cumulative sum (CUSUM) based detector design, a novel Markovian
model for CUSUM detectors, sketch-based traffic modeling, and
wavelet based signal processing techniques.
Taiwan and Poland are similarly plagued in the '90s with the
inroads of massive commercialism amidst diminishing cultural
resources. And along with newly gained autonomy and cultural
awakening, national identity has become a pressing issue. A
conference co-sponsored by National Science Council, Taiwan, and
Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Oct. 15-17, 2000. The
contributions address the issues of localization and/or
globalization in the age of transitions in Taiwan, Poland and its
neighboring countries (Czech, Lithuania and Latvia). In terms of
cultural dilemmas and transitions, globalization, religion, and
arts and literature, Taiwan and Eastern Europe clearly have
something significant in common.
This book mainly provides the current status of water pollution
faced by China under rapid changing environment and the actions
that have been taken for prevention and treatment of water
pollution. It points out that the water pollution situation is
severe. Facing water pollution, China's experiences include several
aspects on source control and pollution interception, internal
nutrient removal of sediment, ecological restoration, and water
transfer policy. There exists both the opportunity and challenge
for the prevention and control of water pollution in China. The
book contains numerous charts and diagrams which further
illustrating China's paths to clean water.
Next-generation Internet providers face high expectations, as
contemporary users worldwide expect high-quality multimedia
functionality in a landscape of ever-expanding network
applications. This volume explores the critical research issue of
turning today's greatly enhanced hardware capacity to good use in
designing a scalable multicast protocol for supporting large-scale
multimedia services. Linking new hardware to improved performance
in the Internet's next incarnation is a research hot-spot in the
computer communications field.
The methodical presentation deals with the key questions in
turn: from the mechanics of multicast protocols to current
state-of-the-art designs, and from methods of theoretical analysis
of these protocols to applying them in the ns2 network simulator,
known for being hard to extend. The authors' years of research in
the field inform this thorough treatment, which covers details such
as applying AOM (application-oriented multicast) protocol to IPTV
provision and resolving the practical design issues thrown up in
creating scalable AOM multicast service models.

This book analyses links among the Chinese concept of jingjie, the
picturesque movement in European aesthetics, and site-specificity
in 1960s Land Art. Jingjie was fundamental to the spatial fluidity
found in Chinese landscape arts, especially garden design. After
demonstrating how Chinese gardens influenced English landscape
garden principles and the 18th-century European picturesque
movement, this book argue that similar East-West connections served
as direct and indirect influences on the site-specific work of
middle and late 20th-century Land Art artists. This book then
describe how picturesque depictions of the relationship between man
and nature influenced 19th-century landscape architecture in North
America and 20th-century Land Art throughout the West. These
parallel East-West connections served as the foundation for later
interest in site- specificity, and were essential in establishing a
historical context for understanding cross-cultural currents and
their influences on Land Art artists.
This book studies the crash response of thin-walled beams with
different cross sections. Two collapse behaviors are studied in
this book, the axial collapse and the bending collapse.
Mathematical equations are derived to predict and describe the
thin-walled beams' collapse mechanisms. Based on the present
collapse theories, simplified finite element (FE) models and
modeling methodologies are developed for different types of
thin-walled beams. The developed models are validated through
crashworthiness analysis and the results agree very well to those
obtained from the detailed FE models. As demonstrated in this book,
compared to the detailed models, the developed simplified models
have reduced size and consist of less number of elements thereby
can save much more modeling labors and computing time. Such
advantages make the simplified models most suitable for computer
simulation and product design. For an example, the simplified
models and modeling methods presented in this book can be applied
in optimum design of the thin-walled beams.
For the past several decades, China has been transforming itself
from an isolated and backward agrarian society into an economic
superpower with global interests and responsibilities. Over 300
million Chinese have been lifted out of poverty and China now
enjoys the fastest growing and third largest economy on earth. Not
surprisingly, numerous changes in China's foreign relations have
accompanied the astounding transformations in the country's
domestic politics and society. Perhaps most surprising to some
observers is Beijing's aggressive foray into the so-called
developing world. This co-edited book focuses on China's increasing
engagement with many of the less developed countries-particularly
those in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and
the Middle East-and explores the current and future trends in
Beijing's foreign relations. The old and hackneyed call for
revolutionary struggle and world revolution has been consigned to
the dustbin of history. In its place is a concrete pledge to
construct a 'win-win' relationship with any country willing to
deepen ties with Beijing. Dancing with the Dragon will help readers
gain a greater understanding of China's foreign relations in this
critical part of the global community.
